Sheena High

When Sheena High decided to attend Wichita State University, she knew that she might have to take on a financial burden, but was willing to do so to get the education she needed to help others. Fortunately, her potential was well noted and she was chosen as a recipient of the Loy and Kay Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund and the William Graham Scholarship.

"It meant so much to me that someone was actually looking at what I was doing, seeing that I was dedicated to every aspect of my life, and that I had a need," said Sheena.

Sheena appreciates the doors that have been opened for her and knows that because of these opportunities, she can open doors for others. She hopes to use her field major in biology, psychology and sociology along with her minor in business administration to help others in areas such as medicine, business and community involvement. She already has taken steps to improve her community by joining the African-American Student Association and participating in a mentoring program.

"Because someone saw the difference I could make with their help, I also will be able to see the difference others can make and try to help them through my chosen field," says Sheena, "I will have the opportunity to give back."
