Overview
Ph.D., Purdue University
Vis Madhavan is Professor of Industrial Engineering at Wichita State University where he holds the Sam Bloomfield Chair in Engineering Innovation. His research interests have been predominantly focused on fundamental mechanics and tribology issues in the areas of machining and sheet metal forming. He has served as a senior research engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and as a visiting professor at the Naval Research Laboratory. He holds seven U.S. patents and is the recipient of research funding totaling nearly $10 million.
He is also the CEO of Fairmount Technologies, a small business that has developed the novel XTRU suite of manufacturing processes and machines for producing structural components from extrusions. The DoD is acquiring and deploying several sets of these machines at key depots for rapid sustainment of airframes. These machines embody novel patented processes for forming and machining parts without part specific dies, tools, or fixtures. These processes and machines have been developed with SBIR funding totaling more than $10 million.
