Tips for productive meetings with faculty

Here are some ideas for things to discuss as you meet with the faculty to discuss research projects.

  • What is the significance of the project, or what need is it trying to address?
  • What are the expectations (responsibilities) of the faculty on the project?
  • What are the expectations of the students?
  • What time frame (number of weeks) will the research be conducted within?
  • How many hours per day/week/month will be required?  Does that include hours in the lab and outside research?
  • What materials and/or supplies will be needed?
  • What is the estimated cost of those supplies?
  • Where will the work be conducted?
  • How many other students will be working on the project?
  • What methods will be applied?
  • What experience or knowledge is required or preferred?
