Dear Shocker family member,
Although we are into a new fiscal year and always like to keep looking forward to new opportunities, we wish to take this opportunity to reflect on the past giving year. We had some challenging times, but we learned from them. We also cannot forget the many bright moments throughout the year.
Fiscal year 2009 concluded as one of the top four financial years in the history of the WSU Foundation, having raised, in cash and gifts-in-kind, nearly $23.1 million, plus approximately $5.5 million in additional pledges.
Bequests from the estates of James Buck and Melba Hughes and the remainder of the Evelyn Cassat estate brought in more than $8 million to establish and enhance scholarships, a professorship and various other WSU programs.
Twenty-four new endowed funds were established by you, our generous donors, for our students and faculty, including one faculty of distinction, two fellowships and 21 scholarships. In addition, five endowed support funds were created.
We have reported the tumultuous return on investments for the past year, but it did not mean that people lost trust or faith in WSU. More than 1,800 new donors contributed nearly $423,000 in new gifts through the Foundation to our university. This is proof positive that our loyal donors and our new friends believe in investing in the people and the programs of Wichita State.
Thank you for doing your part to ensure that the Shocker future is focused and always moving forward.
Warmest regards,
