Hear WSU folks at library

Current WSU and retired faculty and an alumnus make up the remainder of the noon-1 p.m. luncheon-lecture series offered by Friends of the Wichita Public Library held in the auditorium at 223 S. Main. Lectures are free and open to the public. Lunches are $7 per person.

Professor J.C. Combs will demonstrate a variety of percussion instruments from around the world during his presentation “Shakes, Rattles & Rolls” Feb. 11.

School of Art and Design alumnus Steve Murillo will show slides of “Big Art” projects including the peculiar, the difficult and the grand mural-scale works he created during the past 25 years on March 11.

Dick Welsbacher, professor emeritus of theater, will show the many theatrical productions in the city April 8. Welsbacher was honored recently by having WSU’s new experimental theater in the Hughes Metropolitan Complex named in his honor.

Jim Erickson, associate professor emeritus of English, will speculate as to why some people find the old studio movies so much more satisfactory than movies made today. Erickson taught film/literature at WSU for nearly 30 years, and hosts a movies show on KPTS.

Inside WSU is published by the Office of University Communications for Wichita State University faculty and staff on Fridays - with an exclusive online version every other Friday - during the fall and spring semesters. Items to be considered for publication should be sent to campus box 62 or amy.geiszler-jones@wichita.edu 10 days before publication.
