Concert features premiere Mezzo-soprano Deborah Baxter, assistant professor of voice, and WSU’s top choral ensemble will perform the Kansas premiere of an award-winning composer in a WSU concert later this month. The Concert Chorale will present a variety of unaccompanied choral works at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in Wiedemann Hall. The performance will feature the Kansas premiere of “Lady Evergreen Song” for mezzo-soprano soloist and unaccompanied mixed choir by Ohio composer Andrew Rindfleisch. Rindfleisch, an assistant professor in theory and composition at Cleveland State University, recently won the Rome Prize for composition. His awards include a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. His “Lady Evergreen Song” won honorable mention at the Roger Wagner Choral Institute for new choral music. Baxter has appeared frequently as a soloist and recitalist. Most recently, she appeared with the Wichita Symphony and sang the Mahler Fourth Symphony. The 46-voice Concert Chorale is composed of sophomores through graduate students. The choir specializes in performing significant works from the choral repertory. The group is conducted by Robert Glasmann, associate professor of music. Tickets are $3 general public, $2 senior citizens and non-WSU students, and free to WSU faculty, staff and students with an ID. Call ext. 3233. |
