Candles and ghosts: It must be Christmas

It’s time for two annual holiday events at WSU.

The School of Music will present its 36th annual Candlelight Christmas Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, and 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, in Wiedemann Hall. The concert is free to WSU faculty, staff and students.

The concerts will feature the WSU Madrigal Singers, A Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers and the Women’s Ensemble.

The groups will present selections from the Renaissance, spirituals, jazz and contemporary music. Brass, percussion and organ instruments will accompany the singers. Robert Town will perform seasonal selections on the Marcussen Organ prior to the concerts.

KMUW 89.1 FM will broadcast live a reading of “A Christmas Carol” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, from Wilner Auditorium. For the third year, a cast of WSU students, faculty, staff and friends will read this Dickens’ classic for a live audience. The performance is open to the public.

A $3 donation, which will go toward performing arts scholarships, is suggested.

The adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” is by Dick Welsbacher, WSU theater professor emeritus. Joyce Cavarozzi, associate professor, is director and narrator.
