Focusing on aging, physical activity

WSU’s Center for Physical Activity and Aging and the Quality of Life Center at Larksfield Place will sponsor a lecture, “Successful Aging: The Role of Regular Physical Activity,” from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

Wojtek Chodzko-Zajko, an internationally recognized expert in aging and exercise and professor at Kent State University in Ohio, will talk about healthful aging and how physical activity enhances the quality of life. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Chodzko-Zajko’s primary research interests are in the areas of aging and physical activity. For the past 15 years, he has focused on the effect of exercise and physical activity on sensory, motor and cognitive functioning in old age. Chodzko-Zajko has established an ongoing study of exercise and aging at Kent State. Chodzko-Zajko served on the World Health Organization, Scientific Advisory Committee, which recently issued the publication “Guidelines for Physical Activity in Older Adults.” He also serves on the American College of Sports Medicine Strategic Health Initiative on Aging and Exercise and is chairman of the ACSM Interest Group on Aging.
