Julie Nixon Eisenhower next Forum Board lecturer

By Lori Miller

Politics. Scandal. The threat of impeachment. A president’s resignation. Julie Nixon Eisenhower lived through it as a member of the First Family. On Tuesday, March 30, she will present “Public People: Image vs. Reality,” at 7:30 p.m. in the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 29th Street and Oliver. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Daughter of former president Richard Nixon, Eisenhower knows what it means to be in the public eye.

Now married to the grandson of a U.S. president, she was active in the presidential elections of 1968 and 1972, traveling to 33 states to meet members of the local and national press, volunteers and local candidates.

During her father’s administration, she toured the country representing the White House on behalf of children's issues, the environment and the elderly. Because of her White House activities, she was voted one of the 10 mostadmired women by Good Housekeeping magazine readers in 1974 and 1975.

She is the author of three books: “Julie Eisenhower’s Cookbook for Children,” “Pat Nixon: The Untold Story” and “Special People,” which profiles Golda Meir, Prince Charles, Mrs. Billy Graham and others. She also is the editor of “Eye on Nixon” and “Favorite Stories,” a collection of children’s stories.

Groups of 20 or more should make reservations by calling Lori Miller, ext. 3045.
