In memoriam
Nancy Foran, 57, of Canton, Mich., died Feb. 25 following a short illness resulting from an acute form of brain cancer. She was an associate professor emeritus in the School of Accountancy, having retired from WSU in August 2000 after 25 years of service. She was on the faculty at the University of Michigan in Dearborn at the time of her death. An expert in the field of taxation, Dr. Foran and her husband Michael, who retired from WSU in 2001 to join her on the UM faculty, had visited all 50 states and every continent except Africa. A trip to Africa was on their agenda when her illness was discovered a short time ago. In addition to her husband, her survivors include Kevin Bachus of Seattle, Daniel Bachus of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mike Foran of Boston; daughters Dana Katz of New York, Jennifer Carleton of Washington, D.C., Christy Foran of Morgantown, W. Va., and Michelle German of Stillwater, Okla.; four grandchildren; and her mother Ruth Hoffman of Los Angeles. A memorial has been established with the Nancy J. Foran Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Foundation, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67260-0002. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at WSUs Grace Memorial Chapel.
Elizabeth Gane, 86, of Wichita, died Feb. 18. She had been an assistant professor of English, teaching literature, and later the director of the international program during her time at WSU from 1960 until 1981, when she retired with emeritus status. She also was an author of childrens short stories. A memorial has been established with Habitat for Humanity, 829 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67214.
Dorothy Feemster Terwilliger, 80, of San Francisco died Feb. 15 after a battle with cancer. She was the wife of longtime School of Music faculty member and former College of Fine Arts dean Gordon B. Terwilliger. Following his retirement, the Terwilligers moved to San Francisco in 1985. In addition to her husband, survivors include son Curtis of Hillsborough, Calif., daughter Susan Nessler of Blacksburg, Va., and sister Virginia Evans of Wichita. A memorial has been established with the WSU College of Fine Arts, c/o The Foundation, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67260-0002.
