CUW plans the ‘party of the century’ It’s almost time for the Council of University Women’s 1999 Scholarship Bash. Because of the generosity of the university’s alumni, staff and the community, CUW was able to raise more than $4,000 for scholarships for young women at WSU last year. This year’s scholarship bash will be held 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22. The “millenium” theme this year is “Dynamic decades: celebrating the past, welcoming the future.” Join in the fun by wearing period clothing to the bash — pull out those bell bottoms you’ve been dying to wear. Popular features of the scholarship bash are the silent auction, paperback books selling for less than $1, lunch and various raffles. At the silent auction you can place bids on restaurant certificates, lunch with WSU’s president and first lady, gifts and more. You can even bid for the right to be the “adoptive parent” of the Sedgwick County Zoo’s spectacled bear, a $500 value. The “adoptive parent” will receive a framed certificate, a plush stuffed bear, a letter from the director naming the successful bidder as the adoptive parent, and information about the animal. Tickets for the lunch are $4 and should be purchased by April 15; tickets for chances to win the 50/50 hat or the “Night on the Town Raffle” are $1. Tickets can be purchased from any CUW member, or call Merle Laham, ext. 3699.
