Business dean’s search narrows to three finalists By Amy Geiszler-Jones The search for a new dean for the W. Frank Barton School of Business has been narrowed to three finalists who will conclude campus visits this week. A fourth candidate may be brought in, according to search committee chair Charles Martin. Gerald Graham, a longtime distinguished management professor, is returning to full-time teaching July 1 after leading the business college since 1993. The finalists are: • John Emery, professor and dean of the College of Administration and Business at Louisiana Tech University. His background is in finance, and he is editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management. He earned a doctorate from the University of Washington in 1969. He concludes his campus visit today (Friday, May 7). • Harry Martin, associate professor and chair for the department of management and labor relations, Nance College of Business Administration, Cleveland State University. He also is the executive director of the Institute for Workplace Cooperation and Quality Processes at CSU and president of an active consulting firm, Harry J. Martin & Associates. His doctorate from Southern Illinois University (1980) is in organizational psychology. He visited WSU at the end of April. • Denise Smart, associate professor and associate dean at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. A marketing expert, she is past president of the Southern Marketing Association and is an active researcher and experienced fund-raiser. She earned a doctorate in marketing from Texas A&M University in 1984. She visited WSU earlier this week.
