Start the millennium with fun enrichment classes

Take a class

Eligible employees can use their tuition assistance benefit to enroll in noncredit courses or seminars, such as those offered by the Division of Continuing Education.

Applications, available online or by calling 978-6122, must be submitted two weeks prior to the seminar start date.

Classified and unclassified professional non-teaching permanent employees who work at least 20 hours a week and are eligible for WSU benefits can apply.

If your New Year’s resolution involves learning to do and experience new things, check out the noncredit class offerings by WSU this spring.

Learning to landscape or build a water garden; getting rid of debt and starting smart investing; learning the myths and realities of Presidents Kennedy and Nixon, a new language, or how to hit a golf ball; preparing "tea for two;" and tracing family trees are just a few of the things on the schedule.

Among the new and special interest courses this semester are "Surfin’ Seniors" (meeting 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2), which is designed to help senior citizens learn to use the Internet, and a consumer class on hand-held personal organizers (meeting 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22).

If dinosaurs fascinate you, enroll in "Tyrannosaurus Rex: Separating Fact from Fiction," being taught by Mike Everhart of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, March 1-15. A trip to see the famous traveling exhibition "A T-Rex named Sue" at the Sternberg Museum in Hays will be offered Saturday, March 24.

University professors and staff along with experts from the community lead the classes, which don’t require tests or homework.

Class length and registration prices vary. Most classes are held at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 5015 E. 29th St. N. Some classes will be held at WSU Westside, 7011 W. Central.

Registration is under way now and can be taken until the date a course begins. Most classes begin in February.

For a complete listing of courses or to register, contact the Division of Continuing Education, 978-3731. A listing of classes and a printable registration form are online at http://www.twsu.edu/%7Econferen/ncenter.htm.
