Four young
Kansas women were big winners, garnering more than a quarter-million dollars
in WSU scholarships in December.
Goddard
High School senior Kristen Munday, center, won WSU’s largest
academic scholarship, the $44,000 Clay Barton Scholarship in
Business. Helping welcome her to the W. Frank Barton School
of Business are, left, Craig Barton, brother of the scholarship’s
namesake and son of the business school’s benefactor, and
John Beehler, dean of the Barton School. More than 40 students
competed for the state’s premier scholarship during the
newly named Allen, Gibbs & Houlik L.C. Scholarship Competition.

More than
200 students from across Kansas and the country competed for the Gore
and other major scholarships during WSU’s Distinguished Scholarship
Invitational.
"There
were over 100 volunteers who evaluated students’ leadership skills,
gave tours of their facilities and met with parents," said Tisha
Cannizzo, assistant director of admissions. "We couldn’t do
it without the help of everyone on campus. I want to thank all the faculty
and staff who volunteered their time on a Saturday to help us organize
such an incredible day for these outstanding high school seniors and their
parents."
