Graham,
Vadakin among WSU alumni honorees
A popular,
longtime business faculty member and one of WSUs winningest
coaches are among the seven individuals being honored at the WSU
Alumni Associations annual awards dinner Friday, Jan. 25,
at the Wichita Marriott.
Gerald
Graham, who holds the R.P. Clinton Distinguished Professorship in
Management, will receive the associations Faculty Recognition
Award. Graham, who joined the WSU faculty in 1967, is lauded as
a business expert of considerable talents. During his tenure at
WSU, hes led the Center for Entrepreneurship and served as
dean of the Barton School of Business for seven years in the 1990s.
He shares his knowledge in the classroom, in professional development
seminars and through a column in the Wichita Business Journal.
In
the world of bowling, few if any can match Gordon Vadakins
accomplishment. The head coach of WSUs mens and womens
bowling teams is being given the Laura Cross Distinguished Service
Award. In each and every one of his years as head coach at WSU since
1977, one or both of his teams have advanced to the national championships.
Hes coached nine championship-winning teams, and hes
a fierce competitor himself. His high game is 300.
Others
being honored by the association are Jeff Turner, vice president
and general manager of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, Wichita,
with the Achievement Award; Susan and Dave Anderson, who owns Dealers
Leasing, with the Alumni Recognition Award; and Wichita Eagle marketing
representative Jeffrey Gates with the Young Alumni Award. Mike Oatman,
retired CEO of Great Empire Broadcasting whos known as "Ol
Mike" to KFDI listeners and readers of his weekly Wichita Eagle
column, is being recognized as an honorary alumnus.
