WSU students are Olympics-bound

By Julie Rausch

Six WSU sport administration students will work at the XIX Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City Feb. 8-24.

Students Jenny Caulk, Angie Elliott, Matt Brokaw, Jason Fulgham, Gavin Gehrt and Tennile Matzek will work at the Utah Olympic Park venue, which will feature bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, ski jumping and Nordic combined events.

A sport administration degree prepares students for managerial, marketing, communications and other careers within the sports industry.

"This is the kind of opportunity that doesn’t roll around too often," says Clay Stoldt, assistant professor, sport administration. "Our students will have the opportunity to work alongside some really talented people with the Salt Lake organizing committee, and they’ll work at perhaps the busiest venue at the games."

In addition to their duties at the Olympics, the students will be required to document their work activities in a journal, which will be submitted weekly by fax or e-mail to faculty at WSU. Upon returning, the students will collaborate to develop a multimedia presentation documenting their experiences for presentation.

The students will stay with WSU alumni living in or near Salt Lake City.
