Perks coming to WSU employees

By Joe Kleinsasser

The concept is simple. Offer services, tickets, events, merchandise and opportunities to faculty and staff at a discount as a perk for being WSU employees.

In addition, encourage campus participation by attending university fine arts and athletic events.

"We want to create and encourage a community and family-oriented atmosphere for WSU employees," says Anita Kirkpatrick, Office of Employee Relations and Training.

A new benefits club will be available to all WSU employees and faculty beginning in January. The club will plan monthly events especially for WSU employees and their families.

With a Shocker card, you automatically are part of the group. As such, you will be eligible to receive a variety of goods and services.

A second tier of participation will be offered for employees who choose to pay a modest $1 fee per pay period. These members will have a separate membership card for discounts at a variety of businesses.

Currently local merchants are being contacted to see if they will offer discounts or other benefits. In addition, some amusement parks and entertainment opportunities are being explored in Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

A committee of faculty and staff are in the process of organizing the new club. More details will be announced soon.
