Wichita
State University has more students in class this fall than one year
ago, and those students are taking significantly more classes.
Fall
enrollment increased 44 students, up 0.3 percent compared to fall
2000. WSUs headcount is 14,854 students this fall compared
to 14,810 a year ago, according to the official enrollment report
given to the Kansas Board of Regents following the 20th day of classes.
It is Wichita States largest enrollment since 1993 when 14,892
students attended.
Students
are taking 142,867 credit hours this fall compared to 139,759 one
year ago, an increase of 2.22 percent. All six academic colleges
at WSU showed in increase in credit hour production.
"We
are pleased with our fall enrollment," said Ron Kopita, vice
president for student affairs. "The student head count and
the increase in paid credit hours assures that well have a
financially stable semester."
WSU
experienced a significant increase in evening course credit hours.
Students are enrolled in 36,439 evening course hours, an increase
of 5.17 percent.
The
official numbers are not a complete reflection of total semester
enrollment because of flexible class schedules, according to university
officials. Some classes start after the official reporting date
of the 20th day of classes, which was Sept. 17.
