The Division of Academic Affairs and Research has established the Wichita Lyceum, a distinguished scholar lecture series, with plans for the first scholar to be on campus next year.


Alum wins BOT award

The university’s top donors, along with Chris Shank, vice president of the Wichita insurance firm Dulaney, Johnston & Priest, will be honored Friday, Nov. 2, at the President’s Club Gala. The annual event at the Wichita Marriott is hosted by WSU President Don and first lady Shirley Beggs and sponsored by the WSU Foundation.


Goeser postpones recital

Oboist Amy Goeser is postponing her Nov. 3 Faculty Artist Series recital. The recital has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in Wiedemann Hall.

 

 

 

Someone’s junk can be your treasure

The WSU Police Department is having its garage sale of unclaimed lost and found items and abandoned property from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Coats, clothes, jewelry and other kinds of stuff are going up for sale. The proceeds will benefit a scholarship fund for criminal justice students.

Have an ‘Evening of Giving’

The Ulrich Museum of Art is participating in an "Evening of Giving" 6-10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at Towne East Square. Donations benefit the museum and the Simon Youth Foundation. The $8 ticket provides an exclusive night of shopping, discounts, entertainment and door prizes. The money benefits the museum along with the Simon Youth Foundation. Tickets are on sale now at the museum until Saturday, Nov. 17.

Hall of Fame seeks nominations

Nominate your favorite coach, athlete or athletics contributor for the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame. Nominations need to be made in writing and include a resume of the nominee’s athletic accomplishments. Former student-athletes are not eligible until nine years after their initial enrollment at WSU. Send nominations to Larry Rankin, box 18, by Monday, Oct. 29.

Have some freakish family fun

The Alumni Association is having its annual family fall fling, with a spooky theme, at Eberly Farm, 13111 W. 21st St., at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. There will be haunted hayrides, putrid pumpkin decorating and creepy games for all. Tickets start at $15, with discounts available. The reservation deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 23. Call 978-3834.

Help publish a book

The WSU Women’s Association, formerly called the Dames, is holding a fund-raiser/dinner Friday, Nov. 9, at the House of Schwan, 3636 Comotara. Profits from the event will help defray publishing costs for the book Senior Vice President Jim Rhatigan is editing on WSU’s first ladies. He’ll share some of those stories at the event. There will be food, beer, pop and music for listening and/or dancing. Reservations are $20 per person (which includes a $10 tax-deductible donation) and must be made by Friday, Nov. 2. Singing for the birds

The Madrigal Singers and Chamber Singers will present a fall concert, themed "Songs for the Birds," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Wiedemann Hall. The A Cappella Choir and Women’s Choir will sing songs from different musical periods, including Irving Berlin’s "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor," which are the words inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, during their concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 in Wiedemann Hall. The deadline for submissions for the Nov. 15 Inside WSU issue will be earlier than the normal 10 days prior to the publication date because of the Veteran’s Day holiday.
