Alum wins BOT award

By Lynette Murphy

The university’s top donors, along with Chris Shank, vice president of the Wichita insurance firm Dulaney, Johnston & Priest, will be honored Friday, Nov. 2, at the President’s Club Gala. The annual event at the Wichita Marriott is hosted by WSU President Don and first lady Shirley Beggs and sponsored by the WSU Foundation.

Annual members of the President’s Club give a total of $2,500 during one fiscal year. Lifetime members contribute $100,000 over a lifetime.

Shank will receive the Board of Trustees Award.

Shank, a 1969 graduate, is the current Alumni Association president, but his involvement with the university began when he was a student.

His desire to be part of something larger than himself, paired with a feeling of reciprocity, motivates his involvement outside of his career and family.

Goal-oriented to the last detail, Shank regards his community and university service as "a task to be done," as "avocations rather than vocations."

The Board of Trustees award is given to a citizen of Sedgwick County who has made significant contributions to the partnership between WSU and the community.

Past recipients have included George Fahnestock, Russ Meyer, Al Higdon, Frank Carney, Marni Vliet, Linwood Sexton, Rie Bloomfield and Cramer Reed.
