Search under way for dean of students

The search for WSU’s new dean of students started earlier this month, with hopes of having a new dean named by July 1.

Lori Reesor resigned as dean of students this past summer to become assistant dean in the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s education college.

The dean of students is responsible for student life and related student development programs and services, overseeing career services, the Child Development Center, the Heskett Center, Housing and Residence Life and the Office of Student Development and Multicultural Affairs. The dean also handles all student disciplinary matters and is an adviser to the Student Government Association.

Jim Kelley, dean of operations and personnel for the Division of Student Affairs, chairs the nine-member search committee. Members are students Tarsha Bailey and John Bulcock, faculty members Steven Brady and Sharon Iorio, student affairs staff members Larry Ramos and Susan Ratz, Police Chief Charles Rummery and financial aid staff member Treva Sperlazza.

The committee expects to bring three candidates to campus for interviews in February. It will make its hiring recommendation to Vice President for Student Affairs Ron Kopita.
