Help
community warm up for winter
Shockers
Unite 2001, a campus-wide community service effort, will kick off
Monday, Nov. 26, with a weeklong collection of clean new and used
coats and clothing, non-perishable food items and grocery store
certificates for Wichitas Operation Holiday.
Along
with the collection of goods, WSU faculty, staff and students are
asked to volunteer at the Operation Holiday distribution site in
Towne West Square on Friday, Nov. 30, or Saturday, Dec. 1.
Collection
boxes will be distributed to departments who want to be a part of
the effort prior to the Thanksgiving holiday break. Requests for
the boxes need to be made to Nikki Austerman at978-3022 or nikki.austerman@wichita.edu
by Friday, Nov. 16.
To
add a little competition to the service event, the Office of Student
Development and Multicultural Affairs will track the number of items
donated and the service hours worked by each department and student
organization. Prizes will be given to the department and organization
that donates the most items and time.
Operation
Holiday, which started in 1960, is sponsored by Inter-Faith Ministries
to help those in need in the community. Each year, some 4,500 eligible
families receive items from the charitable effort.
