Presentations

Louis Goldman, associate professor emeritus of curriculum and instruction, presented a paper, "A Textbook of Intolerance: The Anti-Semitic Teachings of the New Testament," at the annual meeting of the Society for the Philosophy and History of Education in Biloxi, Miss., Sept. 29.

Ken Pitetti, professor, physical therapy, made the keynote presentation, "Improving the physical fitness levels of children, adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities," during the Paralympics Congress held in Sydney, Australia. He also presented "The effect of lower body positive pressure on the exercise capacity of individuals with spinal cord injury" and chaired three scientific sessions.

James Swan, associate professor, public health sciences, presented the paper, "Stage of physical activity change among participants of senior center congregate meal sites: bridging between years," at the Kansas Public Health Association annual meeting in Manhattan Oct. 11. He and graduate student Valli Bhagavatula authored the paper. He was also the senior author of "Attitudes of Kansans toward rationing of health care," presented at the meeting by co-author Bhagavatula.

 

Publications

Sarah Daugherty, professor of English, had an article, "’The Home-Towners’: Howells the Critic vs. Howells the Novelist," accepted for publication by American Literary Realism.

 

Awards

Andra Bannister, assistant professor of criminal justice, School of Community Affairs, was honored as the Criminal Justice Professional of the Year by the Wichita Crime Commission. Previous winners in the award’s 11-year history have included federal judges and attorneys.

Nancy Foran, who retired from WSU in August as an associate professor from the School of Accountancy, has been awarded emeritus status.

Marvis Lary, chair, physician assistant department, was selected the Outstanding Physician Assistant of the Year from the Kansas Academy of Physician Assistants.
