Mainstage
Theatre shows backstage comedy
"Moon
Over Buffalo" takes the audience backstage for some absurd comedy
as a once-famous theatrical couple and their repertory theater company
try for one more chance at success while touring upstate New York.
WSUs
Mainstage Theatre will present "Moon Over Buffalo" at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday-Saturday, March 7-9, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in Wilner
Auditorium.
"Moon
Over Buffalo" by Ken Ludwig premiered and had a successful run on
Broadway in 1995.
Down
and out thespians Charlotte and George Hall nearly split up for
good when Charlotte discovers George's affair with Eileen, a beguiling
young company member. The couple's daughter, Rosalind, longs to
escape the tumultuous stage life, but the antics of her parents
keep drawing her back into the spotlight. A handsome young actor,
a star-struck weatherman, a lovesick agent and a grandmother with
a hearing problem adds to the farcical chaos. Only the promise of
a film career with director Frank Capra reunites the family.
Guest
director is Ronald Frederickson of Salt Lake City. Frederickson,
a recipient of the 1998 Kansas Governors Arts Educator Award
and a Kennedy Center Medallion of Excellence for 1999, taught theater
for 27 years at Emporia State University. He has directed more than
70 plays and musicals. He is an instructor of theater at the University
of Utah. He has been in production with WSU students for several
weeks.
Amy
Hughey plays Charlotte, the role that lured Carol Burnett back to
Broadway after a 30-year absence. James Hoensheidt plays George.
Brad Reissig is lighting and set designer and Betty Monroe is costume
designer.
