Longtime faculty wind quintet revives touring bug

Frances Shelly has performed extensively throughout the United States, Central America, Canada and Europe with Shelly/Egler Flute and Organ Duo. The pair has commissioned, premiered and recorded several new works for flute and organ. The duo’s CD "The Dove Descending" is on the Summit record label.

Paco Peña to bring flamenco to Wichita State

Singer Angel and a fiery male dancer named Antonio with partners Maria and Marta will display flamenco artistry while singing and dancing to the rhythms of Paco Peña’s passionate Spanish guitar music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Miller Concert Hall.

Communication school partners with elementary magnet

Top juniors honored

Kansas high school juniors in the top 10 percent of their class and their parents have been invited to Presidential Scholars Day at WSU from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, and Thursday, Feb. 28. The program is designed to honor the students’ outstanding academic achievements.


Vespers canceled

The Rie Bloomfield Organ Series’ three vespers concerts scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays Feb. 27, March 6 and March 13 have been canceled.


Poetry reading rescheduled

A reading by WSU’s writer-in-residence Terese Svoboda has been rescheduled from Friday, Feb. 22, to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the same location, 209 Hubbard Hall. Svoboda has been at WSU since Feb. 11, working with WSU poetry and fiction students. She concludes her residency March 18.

Get fit for free

The Office of Human Resources sponsors a free exercise class for WSU faculty and staff. The class incorporates 15 minutes each of aerobic activity and conditioning, with a warm-up and cool down. The class meets 12:05-12:50 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 12:35-1:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Duerksen C-9. Wanted: books

The Council of University Women is accepting donations of books for its book sale that is part of the group’s annual scholarship bash. Books can be dropped off at 233 Jabara Hall and 115 Clinton Hall before April 1. For more information, contact Darlene Dinkel, 978-3870.

New digs for communications

The Office of University Communications, including Inside WSU staff, has been temporarily relocated until early April to the fourth floor of Brennan Hall while its offices in 102 Morrison Hall undergo renovations. The voicemail, e-mail, fax and campus box numbers remain the same for the staff.

A sad story

The Women’s Panhellenic Association is sponsoring the talk "Kristin’s Story" at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, in the Hughes Metropolitan Complex. "Kristin’s Story" is that of a young Baker University student’s date rape and subsequent suicide as told by her mother Andrea Cooper.
