Mulbury performs 10th annual organ vespers

The Rie Bloomfield Organ Series will present David Mulbury, professor emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, in three, free organ vespers recitals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 28, April 4 and 11, in Wiedemann Recital Hall. Each program will be about 45 minutes.

Mulberry has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, notably as a Bach specialist. However he has included the organ masterworks of every period and style in an extensive performing repertoire.

He has a keen interest in historic organs in Germany and Austria, and he has studied under many renowned teachers in Germany and America.

A German reviewer wrote, "What distinguished Mulbury’s playing is the elegance and immaculate polish with which he overcomes the most difficult places. Virtuosity is with him completely in servitude to the musical – a rare treat."

Robert Town, associate professor of organ, began the annual organ vespers series with six recitals in 1991. Town was to have played the series this year, but due to health concerns he invited Mulbury to perform.

"The series is meant to be concurrent with Lent," said Town, "but more importantly, to provide an opportunity for the community and WSU staff and students to hear great organ literature played on one of the world’s finest instruments at the end of a workday."
