sport administration program endorsed by boards
By Julie

WSUs sport
administration program in the department of kinesiology and sport
studies has been certified by its governing boards the North
American Society of Sport Administration and the National Association
of Sport and Physical Education as being a quality program
in full compliance with sport management program standards.
WSU is one
of only 13 programs out of about 200 sport administration programs
approved in North America.
The endorsement
adds another element of credibility, said Lori Miller, department
chair.
"It lets
employers and practitioners, parents and potential students know
that our WSU students with a degree in sport administration are
well educated based on professional guidelines governing sport management
academic curriculum," Miller said.
The program
is already known for having an impressive alumni and intern job
placement. For example, spring interns are working at such organizations
as the Boston Celtics and the Texas Rangers, as well as in various
college athletic departments including Vanderbilt, Indiana State
University and the University of Florida. There are lots of good
internships locally as well, at WSU, the Wichita Wranglers, the
Wichita Thunder and the Greater Wichita Sports Commission.
"Weve
always known weve offered a quality sport administration degree
program at WSU. This endorsement and official recognition merely
makes it more authentic," said Miller.
