Gaunt to step down as Elliott School director

Philip Gaunt, who has been director of the Elliott School of Communication since July 1996, will leave that position in June.

He'll remain on the WSU faculty and continue as director of the Interdisciplinary Communication Research Institute, which he founded in 1995.

Gaunt is resigning as the school’s director because of his involvement in a recently announced $3.8 million grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. He will manage and help develop a new statewide media campaign focused on adult involvement in children’s lives, in partnership with the Kansas Health Foundation and Sullivan Higdon & Sink.

A nationwide search for the new director is already under way.

Gaunt has been at WSU since 1990 when he joined the Elliott School as director of research.
