16, No. 15 April 13, 2000 Issue Global learning candidates visiting in April By Amy Geiszler-Jones Two candidates - one of them a former WSU faculty member - will interview for a new endowed professorship position in global learning later this month. James Tomayko and Edward Anderson will meet with various groups April 23-25 during their visit. The campus community will have the chance to meet Tomayko from 2:30-3:20 p.m. and Anderson from 3:30-4:20 p.m. during open forums April 24 in 128 Jabara Hall. Each will give a presentation and respond to questions. Tomayko is currently the executive director of the International Software Research Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He was on the WSU computer science faculty from 1982-89. Anderson is the current H.T. Person Professor for Excellence in Engineering Education at the University of Wyoming. He is on leave from Texas Tech University where is associate director of its Teaching, Learning and Technology Center. Their vitae and schedules for their campus visits are available in the Faculty Senate office, 002 Morrison Hall, and the dean’s office of each academic college. The Boeing Endowed Professor of Global Learning will be expected to serve as a leader to the WSU and Wichita communities in what’s called "global learning" – the ability to apply advanced technology to teaching and learning. The position was established with a $1.5 million gift from The Boeing Co. in January 1999. |
