WSU bowlers strike it big for charity

The WSU community raised $17,282 during last month’s WSU Bowlmania, as part of the fund-raiser Bowl for Kids’ Sake for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County.

The 185 bowlers on 37 teams who bowled March 8 and 9 in the Rhatigan Student Center exceeded this year’s goal by more than 200 percent.

"Our goal was $7,500," said organizer Jenny Anderson with WSU’s Board of Trustees. Last year, WSU had raised $1,400.

General counsel Ted Ayres raised $747.50, the most pledged to a single bowler. His team, which included Bruce Erickson, executive director of marketing and communications; Ron Kopita, vice president for student affairs; Lori Miller, chair of kinesiology and sport studies; and Rick Smith, associate vice president for advancement, raised $1,428.90, the most pledged to a team.
