MRC wins national award

The MRC won a bronze finalist award for "Beyond the Word," a documentary by Greg Matthias, manager of television services, who accompanied students and faculty from WSU’s dance department to Poland last summer when they participated in a mime festival. The documentary aired on WSU TV several times in September...

Give the gift of life

The American Red Cross’ spring blood drive at WSU will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Heskett Center lobby. Appointments will be taken every 15 minutes; administrative leave is granted with your supervisor’s permission. Call 978-3082 for appointments.

Still time to convert

E-mail accountholders using the twsuvm or wsuhub servers need to sign up to the new wichita.edu extension by May 1. Mail in those current accounts will be forwarded to the wichita.edu address for two months after acquiring that address. The twsuvm and wsuhub extensions will not work after July 1.

Offices may install the Lotus Notes application, or individuals, including students, may sign up for WSU’s Webmail service at the university’s Web site to get the new extension. For Lotus Notes training and installation, email here. To sign up for the Web-based service, go to www.wichita.edu and click on the "Email Center" icon.

Make a pledge

There’s still time to give to KMUW FM89’s annual spring pledge drive. The on-air fund-raiser at WSU’s public radio station continues through April 7. WSU employees may use payroll deductions for their pledges. Call 978-6700.

Trip canceled

After announcing a revamped road trip to a taping of "A Prairie Home Companion" in Minnesota, KMUW FM89 has canceled that offering.

Go to a carnival of arts

The College of Fine Arts is featuring visual and performing artists, demonstrations and booths during a carnival 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in and around Duerksen Fine Arts Center, McKnight Art Center, Wiedemann Hall and Wilner Auditorium. Entertainment includes an impromptu theater group, sketch artists and singing minstrels. A Dixieland ensemble performs at 11 a.m. on Duerksen’s front lawn; a baroque ensemble plays at noon in the building’s foyer. A 1 p.m. flute recital will be in Grace Memorial Chapel. The entertainment is free; food will be sold

to benefit student organizations.

An extra day for filing

Because April 15 falls on a Sunday, tax filers have until Monday, April 16, to mail their federal and state returns. WSU Postal Services, however, will keep its regular hours, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., April 16.

Take WU with you

By sporting WuShock on your license plate, you can support student scholarships. The Alumni Association’s "Drive Your Pride" program allows Shocker faithful to get specialized license plates displaying WuShock. The plates are available to Kansas residents with passenger vehicles or light trucks registered in Kansas. The $35 annual royalty payment for the program is due to the Alumni Association 60 days before your regular tag renewal month. Of the fee, $30 is deposited into a general scholarship for WSU students. To find out more, call 978-3290.
