17, No. 16 May 3, 2001 Issue No summer vacation for campus parking, road work By Joe Kleinsasser It wont be too difficult to find a parking spot on campus this summer. However, you may have to find a different parking lot than the one you use now. Construction activity on the universitys parking lot and street improvement project has increased because of better weather conditions. Work currently under way involves: completion of the perimeter road west of Alumni Drive; completion of parking lot number 16 in the area south and southwest of Duerksen Fine Arts Center, along with adjacent sidewalks in the area; completion of pavement and sidewalks southeast of Levitt Arena; and the initial construction for the westerly expansion of parking lot number 4 in the area between Morrison Hall and Cessna Stadium. Work planned to get under way toward the end of May or early June and to be done over the summer will include: completion of the perimeter road east of Alumni Drive; reconstruction of the rest of parking lot number 4; reconstruction of parking lot number 3 east and northeast of Cessna Stadium; reconstruction of parking lot number 6 east of Ahlberg Hall; reconstruction of parking lot number 8 north of Grace Memorial Chapel; and reconstruction of parking lot number 10 to the south of Corbin Education Center. Efforts will be made to finish as much of this work as possible before the fall semester starts, but it is anticipated that some areas will be worked on through the end of October, according to John Gist, director of facilities. Construction and operating costs will be monitored along with revenues in determining whether there will be any parking fees adjustments in the future, said Roger Lowe, vice president for administration and finance. WSUs news digest, e-mailed weekly to employees, will provide updates on lot closures as work progresses. |
