WSU commemorates 1970 plane crash

By Carmen Hytche

In a brief ceremony, a wreath will be placed at Memorial ’70 at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2.

The ceremony will honor the 31 WSU football players, administrators and supporters who died in a plane crash 30 years ago that day. The plane went down near Silver Plume, Colo., en route to a game with Utah State University in Logan.

Former health professions dean Dr. D. Cramer Reed, who traveled to Colorado immediately following the accident to represent WSU and help family members of players, will offer comments. President Don and Shirley Beggs will lay the wreath on behalf of the university.

The memorial sculpture is located on Alumni Drive near 18th Street and Hillside. The ceremony is open to the public. A reception will follow in the Duerksen Fine Arts Center foyer.
