Foundation nets best year ever

A record number of individuals and corporations gave a record number of donations to the WSU Foundation in fiscal year 2001.

Donors – 15,199 individuals and corporations – gave $19.5 million to WSU students, faculty, programs and facilities through the WSU Foundation.

A record amount – $5.4 million – of the total was designated by donors as endowed gifts for scholarships, professorships and other funds providing long-term support.

The Roundhouse Renaissance campaign helped boost the overall fund-raising record, as well. Approximately $4.8 million of the total was earmarked for the campaign to address the primary facility needs of Shocker athletics. About $17 million in cash and pledges has been raised for the $25 million campaign.

Gifts in kind totaled $1.8 million, including $1.4 million in equipment from Cisco Systems Inc. WSU received $2.1 million in estate gifts.

More than two-thirds of the donors – 69 percent – were alumni. Seventy donors gave more than $25,000 to the university.

In addition to the cash and in-kind gifts, another $13.4 million in new pledges was recorded during fiscal year 2001.
