Despite a campaign kickoff on Halloween day 2000, there’s nothing "scary" about the progress that’s been made a mere six months later in the $25 millon effort, the Roundhouse Renaissance. About $14 million in pledges has been received so far, putting Shocker athletics at about 60 percent of its goal.
The success has been such that Athletic Director Jim Schaus has now included $5.5 million in phases first considered optional into that goal. The original goal announced Oct. 31 was $19.5 million.
A multi-purpose center, which had previously been referred to as a practice gymnasium, was added to the campaign. To be built on the north side of Levitt Arena, the center will have more than 15,000 square feet and include two basketball courts and an equipment room.
Schaus indicates that construction will not begin until all the money is raised.
"Although we have had success to date, we have a long way to go to meet our goals. It is important for supporters of this project to understand that we need every dollar to make this happen," Schaus says.
The Roundhouse Renaissance funds will renovate Levitt Arena and add a student services building that incorporates new administrative office space. In addition to the kickoff gifts totaling $12.5 million from Koch Industries, Tom and Myra Devlin, Bob and Maura Geist and Barry and Paula Downing, the following donors have contributed more than $100,000 combined, with their gifts going toward specific projects:
