Get someone’s heart pumping
A Red Cross adult CPR certification workshop will be offered by Frank Rokosz, kinesiology and sport studies, at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in 134 Heskett Center. The cost is $15 and can be paid at the workshop. Before attending the workshop, you must read pages 1-75 of the American Red Cross book “Community First Aid & Safety,” available at the University Bookstore. Participation is limited to 25 people. Celebrate the arts
The Ulrich Museum, as part of activities related to its current two African-influenced exhibitions, is hosting “Family Day: Celebrating the Arts!” 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 20. Activities during the free event include an African dance workshop, a drumming session and performance workshop, exhibit tours, and arts and crafts for all ages.

Be a sweetie, take a kid to the game Valentine’s Day
The WSU women’s basketball game with Illinois State at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 will be part of the “Take a Kid to the Game” program, sponsored by Regal by Buick. The program promotes the women’s game to America’s youth. All kids will be admitted free to the game and can participate in several events leading up to the game. Among the activities are a one-hour workshop with Coach Darryl Smith and the team at 11 a.m. and a Kids Career Fair, hosted by many local women business leaders, on the concourse. A free autograph session follows the game.

Evaluations coming soon
Student Perception of Teaching Effectiveness request forms will be sent to teaching faculty Feb. 17 and will be due to the Social Science Research Lab, box 107, by March 5. The SPTE evaluations for 8-week classes will be administered March 8-12, while the ones for semester-long classes will be given April 7-May 7.

New degree added
The Board of Regents has approved a new degree, bachelor of sport administration, which will be offered through the department of kinesiology and sport studies, formerly the department of health and physical education.

Take in an evening of art
As part of a city-wide gallery tour, members of WSU’s Visual Arts, Sculpture and Potters Guilds will display and sell art in the McKnight Art Center from 7-11 p.m. the last Friday of the month. The Ulrich Museum also participates in “Final Fridays.”

Night of Thunder helps scholarship
During a special event at its 6 p.m. Feb. 28 game, Wichita Thunder hockey will help boost a scholarship fund set up in honor of Amie Montgomery, a WSU Student Ambassador who was murdered while at an off-campus job. For $1, chuck a puck at the sanitation truck on the ice. If you get the puck in the truck, you win $100, while one-third of the profits from the Check-A-Puck program will benefit the scholarship. Twenty or more WSU people attending or ordering tickets as a group receive a $1 discount, making tickets $7 or $10.

Regalia fair ends today
Today (Feb. 12) is the last day for the faculty regalia fair at the University Bookstore. The fair ends at 5 p.m. Regalia may also be rented for the May commencement ceremony. All orders should be placed before March 15 in order to guarantee hood colors. To place a rental order, contact Dawn Haywood-Haas, ext. 7018 or dhaywoodhaas@hotmail.com.

Last day to find your ‘treasure’
Today also is the last day for the Physical Plant’s surplus sale. You can view what’s left and place a bid until 4 p.m. at the Physical Plant warehouse.

Don’t miss this swinging benefit night for KMUW
Help celebrate 50 years of broadcasting for KMUW; grab your dancing shoes and hear the band Roomful of Blues at the Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg, at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19. A vintage affair has been planned — the Cotillion will be transformed into a 1949 nightclub, the year KMUW went on the air. KMUW 89.1 FM is the public radio station at Wichita State University.
