‘Postcard’ reminder
The postcard series collaboration by Clark Britton, professor of art at WSU, and Tom Averill, an English professor at Washburn University, which was featured in the Nov. 6 issue of Inside WSU, is on display at Newman University’s DeMattias Gallery through March 12. The series, “Postcards from Midlin,” combines Britton’s postcards of a fictional 1950s Kansas town and Averill’s story about Midlin hometown hero Ken who goes off to the University of Wichita. Gallery hours are 4-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, or call 942-4291, ext. 199, for an appointment. A reception will be held 4-6 p.m. March 12 for the two professors at the gallery located in DeMattias Hall.

 ‘Make a difference’
A series of five employee development workshops is being offered, starting March 5, for classified staff and unclassified professionals.

 Led by WSU experts, each of the five workshops will be tailored to the WSU environment. Employees may choose to attend one, some or all of the sessions. Already more than 40 people have pre-registered for the sessions, according to Carolyn Cox, leading to a location change. The sessions will be held 1-3:40 p.m. Fridays, March 5, 12 and 19 and April 2 and 9, in 200 Clinton Hall.

The sessions are: “Customer Relations” by Marlise McCammon, March 5; “Stress Management” by Kathy Rager, March 12; “Motivation” by John Belt, March 19; “Communication Skills” by Greg Buell, April 2; and “Leadership” by Don Hackett, March 9.

Rent-a-Rower
If you need help with yard work, painting of general spring cleanup, have a WSU rower work for you Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14. All funds raised help the WSU crew support travel, races, equipment and uniforms. You can rent a rower for a half day (four hours) for $40, or a full day (eight hours) for $70. Convocation recognizes achievers
WSU’s top faculty and students will be recognized during Honors Convocation Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

Parking plan modified

Sometimes it takes a newcomer to a process to spot the obvious.

One of the concerns about a parking plan proposed in July by former president Eugene Hughes was the loss of a well-lit, on-campus playing field. New WSU president Don Beggs says he has found a solution to the problem: the field in Cessna Stadium.

Hughes Metropolitan Complex to be dedicated March 5

Faculty, staff and students are invited to the formal dedication of the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 5015 E. 29th St. N., at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5. Also to be dedicated in the complex are the Roger D. Lowe Auditorium, Frederick Sudermann Commons and Richard Welsbacher Theatre. The naming of the facility was approved last month by the Kansas Board of Regents.

Rie Bloomfield Organ Series presents Catharine Crozier
The Rie Bloomfield Organ Series will present the pre-eminent American organist Catharine Crozier in a series of three Organ Vespers recitals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 3, 10 and 17, at Wiedemann Recital Hall. Single tickets are $2 for faculty and staff; vespers series tickets are $5.

Focusing on aging, physical activity
WSU’s Center for Physical Activity and Aging and the Quality of Life Center at Larksfield Place will sponsor a lecture, “Successful Aging: The Role of Regular Physical Activity,” from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex.
