Eddie Bauer offers discounts
Eddie Bauer, AKA Eddie Bauer and Eddie Bauer Home are offering 20 percent discounts to WSU employees on purchases of full-price merchandise April 14-17. Just flash your WSU ID, business card or pay stub when making your purchases in the store. Get your health checked
There’s still time to call for an appointment to participate in the state’s free biannual HealthCheck April 13-15 in the Great Plains Room of the Rhatigan Student Center. The confidential screening includes cholesterol, blood pressure and body fat tests. Retirees and spouses can participate, too, for a $38.15 fee; reserved parking south of the RSC will be available for off-campus participants. Call ext. 6449 or 6166 for an appointment.

Here comes the judge
Faculty and staff are needed to judge the Hippodrome skit performances 6:45-10:30 p.m. April 15 and 16 and 12:15-8 p.m. April 17. Hippodrome, one of WSU’s longest running traditions, started in 1928. Call the Student Activities Council, ext. 3495, to volunteer or for more information about the weeklong celebration.

KMUW needs volunteers
WSU’s public radio station, KMUW 89.1 FM, needs volunteers to help with the station’s annual spring fund-raising campaign April 16-24. Call ext. 6789.

Under the microscope
President Don Beggs will provide an “insider’s view” of being a university presidential candidate at the American Association of University Professors’state chapter meeting 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Traditions. Seven to be recognized at Shocker Pride Picnic

Making sure these stones aren’t thrown away

George Platt, associate professor emeritus of public administration, is trying to make sure what’s left of the university’s first building, which burned in 1929, isn’t destroyed or forgotten.

Whenever he can, he shares with alumni, faculty and Wichita-area folks the story of Fairmount Hall’s beginning in 1887, its destruction in 1929, what happened to the building’s stones back in 1932 and what may happen to them now, when WSU’s parking plan moves forward as planned.

CUW plans the ‘party of the century’
It’s almost time for the Council of University Women’s 1999 Scholarship Bash. Because of the generosity of the university’s alumni, staff and the community, CUW was able to raise more than $4,000 for scholarships for young women at WSU last year.

This year’s scholarship bash will be held 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22.

It’s all in the family

Winning one of the most coveted awards by the Boy Scouts of America has turned into a family affair.

Mike Erickson, assistant director of University Computing, won the Silver Beaver Award from the local Boy Scouts of America Quivira Council, the highest award a local council can give to volunteers.

Making a heavenly noise
Christ Church Cathedral Choir has sung in England’s Oxford University cathedral since the founding of the college in 1526. The choir will sing as part of WSU’s Rie Bloomfield Organ Series at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in Wiedemann Recital Hall.
