Join the family fun at WSU
Families looking for fun, mainly free activities, should stop at WSU Saturday, April 10. The Heskett Center is hosting Healthy Kids Day 9:30-11:30 a.m., with opportunities for learning about family fitness, nutrition, and fire and personal safety. Participants can play games and register for prizes, too. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Levitt Arena, folks from various departments at WSU will offer fun and educational activities during WSU’s Open House. Games, contests, blood pressure screenings and ice cream frozen instantly with liquid nitrogen are just some of the fun activities. The Child Development Center will offer tours of its facility from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. April 10, as well. Parents of current CDC children and teachers will be on hand to answer questions.

MTV set to invade WSU
The MTV Campus Invasion Tour will stop at Wichita State from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, on the playing fields south of Levitt Arena. The event is free and open to the public. The tour stop will feature entertainment kiosks with live music, new music, a makeover tent and general MTV frivolity. If there’s inclement weather, the event will be canceled. For more information contact the Student Activities Council, ext. 3495.

So how did WSU rate?
Three WSU graduate programs ranked in the top 100 in U.S. News and World Reports’ year 2000 rankings. The master of fine arts in music program ranked 49, with a 3.3 score on a scale of 5 being the highest. The creative writing program ranked 50, with a 3.1 score, while the speech pathology doctorate program ranked 51 with a 3.1 score. The rankings are viewed by some as highly controversial. More information on the rankings and methodology can be found online by clicking here.

WSU folks win elections
Both WSU employees running for political office were successful in this week’s election. Joe Pisciotte, public administration professor, won a seat on the Wichita City Council, representing District 2. Connie Dietz, a former public school teacher now director of WSU’s cooperative education program, was elected to the Wichita school board.
