Inside on brief hiatus
Inside WSU will not be published next Friday, Nov. 27, because of the Thanksgiving holiday break. The next and last issue for the fall semester will be published Friday, Dec. 4. Items to be included in that issue must be received by Monday, Nov. 30.

Be thankful for some days off
Most university offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 26-29, and classes will not be held Nov. 25-29. Offices will reopen and classes will resume Monday, Nov. 30.

Discounts offered
Wichita J.C. Penney stores are offering a 15 percent discount on all merchandise to WSU faculty and staff from 8-10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. To participate, you must present a discount card which can be picked up Nov. 30-Dec. 5 at the information center in the Rhatigan Student Center. The information center is open 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.

Make the seasonal pilgrimage
WSU Opera Theatre and Opera Kansas Inc. have teamed up again to stage the popular Christmas opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 and 3 p.m. Nov. 29 in Miller Concert Hall. Tickets are $4 for faculty and staff. Call ext. 3233 for reservations.


It’s annual meeting time
The WSU Employees Association’s annual meeting will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the Sunflower Room, Rhatigan Student Center. Refund checks will be handed out to those who have Employees Association life insurance policies, have paid premiums during fiscal 1998; and are still employed at WSU. Retirees during FY 98 will get prorated refunds. If you can’t attend, pick up your refund check after Dec. 8 in human resources.


Listen for the music
Robert Town, associate professor of organ, will perform the Thanksgiving carillon concert from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, from atop the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S. Main.

Be savvy with your money
If you want to learn how to make or save more money, get some tips from personal finance expert Rick LeCompte during a free lunchtime seminar at the Downtown Center.

“Are You in a Financial Frenzy? Test Your Financial Savvy” will be held noon-1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4. Make reservations by calling ext. 6555. Seminar-goers are encouraged to bring a lunch.

LeCompte is associate professor and chair of WSU’s department of finance, real estate and decision sciences.

Endowment payout increases

“Napoleon’s First Shave” is among the works in the current Ulrich Museum exhibition “Tony Scherman: French Revolution.” Scherman, from Toronto, was at the Ulrich Museum for an opening reception Nov. 5. The exhibit can be viewed noon-5 p.m. daily until Dec. 13. The museum will be closed Thanksgiving Day, and will have special evening hours, 7-10, on Friday, Nov. 27.
