Have an eerie time at
the Ulrich
If you dare, bring your children to listen to "Ms. Jean the Storyteller" from 3:30-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. She’ll spook you in the Beren Gallery at WSU’s Ulrich Museum. Come in costumes and receive a special treat. Refreshments will be served. Ms. Jean is a gifted storyteller and a popular guest at the museum, said Anna Castillo, Ulrich education curator. By day, Ms. Jean is Jean Pouncil-Burton, a head librarian for the Marina Lakes branch of the Wichita Public Library. For storytelling appearances, she usually brings a drum and dresses in traditional Griot dress. Griot is the keeper of traditions and stories in many African villages. Ms. Jean uses her distinctive voice portraying various accents, sound effects and animal sounds, evoking a variety of characters to spin tales of suspense, humor and insight.
