Grants Howard Taylor, Heskett Center director, received $16,781 from the Kansas Department of Education for the project "Summer 1999 Food Service Program/NYSP." Presentations William Mayfield, visiting professor, marketing and entrepreneurship, presented his research paper, "The Formation and Organization of Mega-Angel Syndicates," at the Babson College-Kauffman Research Conference at the University of South Carolina. Ken Pitetti, professor, public health sciences, presented a paper, "Aerobic capacity as related to leg strength in youths with cystic fibrosis," at the 20th International Symposium of the European Group of Pediatric Work Physiology held in Sabaudia, Italy. Two papers he co-authored — "Heart rate-oxygen uptake relationship is not altered in Down syndrome" and "Autonomic control of resting and exercise heart rate in adolescents with Down syndrome" — were also presented at the symposium. Publications Tonya Huber, associate professor, curriculum and instruction, was lead author on a photo essay, "Forsaking White Privilege, Becoming Involved in Humanity," published in Multicultural Education. The essay was about her experiences teaching in the Ivory Coast of West Africa. William Mayfield, visiting professor, marketing and entrepreneurship, has had an article, "The Entrepreneur’s Choice: Growth Inhibiting Business Practices of SMEs in Scotland and Ireland," published in the Journal of Enterprising Culture. Scholarly Activity William Mayfield, visiting professor, marketing and entrepreneurship, completed his second doctorate in entrepreneurship, awarded by Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. His dissertation, "The Determination of Developmental Factors that Affect the Formative Process in the Relationship between the Informal Investor and the Entrepreneur During the Due Diligence Process: An Exploratory Study," has established new methods by which to increase the number of new business start-ups using angel or informal venture capital. Appointments Mike Kelly, associate professor and curator of special collections, Ablah Library, has been appointed by Gov. Graves to a four-year term on the Kansas State Library Advisory Commission. Grady Landrum, director, Office of Disability Services, has been named co-chair for the Association on Higher Education and Disability’s July conference in Kansas City, Mo. The conference will focus on "Universal Designs in Higher Education." Landrum serves on AHEAD’s board of directors.
