Beren Gallery becomes the drawing room "The Yaddo Drawings," showcasing 36 works by British artist Garth Evans, will be shown at the Ulrich Museums Beren Gallery Oct. 15-Jan.2. Evans will give a lecture from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, followed by an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. in 210 McKnight Art Center In 1982, Evans completed more than 40 ink and collage works during his stay in Yaddo, an artists retreat in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Evans, known primarily as a sculptor, developed a distinctly sculpturesque approach to a two-dimensional medium in "The Yaddo Drawings" through both paper collage and his manipulation of tonalities. The drawings, seen together, illustrate a process of artistic discovery. Executed in black ink over a support of white and colored scraps of paper, the drawings are abstract but often border on representation. Museum hours are noon-5 p.m. daily; it is closed major holidays.
