Appointments Mary Herrin, associate vice president, administration and finance, and director of budgets, has been appointed by the Central Association of College and University Business Officers as member and registrar on the St. Louis workshop committee. She also will serve on the technology committee. Publications Tina Bennett-Kastor, professor of English, has been appointed editorial consultant for the journal Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in the Schools. Her article "Predictions and Nonreferential Cohesion in Irish-Speaking Children’s Narratives" is to appear in the final issue of 1999 of the journal Functions of Language. William Mayfield, visiting professor, marketing and entrepreneurship, has written a pamphlet detailing the angel investment strategies and process. LINC Scotland, the national angel/entrepreneur introduction service of Scotland, commissioned the pamphlet, which it will publish and distribute. Wan Yang, assistant professor, geology, has published an article, "Testing periodicity of depositional cyclicity, Cisco Group (Virgilian and Wolfcampian) Texas," in the November Journal of Sedimentary Research. Transitions Marsha Stevens has been promoted to regional director of the WSU Small Business Development Center. Grants Donald Blakeslee, professor, anthropology, was awarded $1,870 by the Transystems Corp. for "Phase 1BNSF Archaeological Survey Project." Brian Blumberg, field engineer, Center for Technology Application, was awarded $1,520,000 by the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing for the project "Impact Grant." Deltha Colvin, assistant vice president, student affairs, was awarded $4,237 by the Kansas Department of Education for the project "Summer 1999 Food Service Program/Upward Bound/Wichita Prep." Elaine Hanna, director, Center for Technology Application, was awarded $7,940 by the Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center for the project "Product Testing Enhancement and Expansion." Elia Salas, academic adviser, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was awarded $7,948 by the University of Kansas Medical Center for the project "Health Careers Pathways Center: Satellite Center-Wichita-2000." Marsha Stevens, regional director, WSU Small Business Development Center, was awarded $1,948 by the Kansas Small Business Development Center for the project "Y2K Grant." John Tomblin, assistant professor, aerospace engineering, was awarded $137,000 by Iowa State University/FAA for the project "Investigation of Adhesive Behavior in Aircraft Applications." Presentations Tina Bennett-Kastor, professor of English, recently gave an invited lecture to the Pittsburg State University chapter of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta.
