Big Dawg returns to the Roundhouse
Carr tips off the third season of WSU’s Distinguished Alumni Speaker Breakfast Series at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1. The series, sponsored by the Alumni Association, showcases some of WSU’s most illustrious alums. Carr helped bring his hometown university back to national prominence in the early 1980s by teaming up with Cliff Levingston to form the powerful "bookend forwards" — a combination that dazzled opponents and fans alike. Carr set a WSU scoring record of 47 points in his final game wearing Shocker colors. His 1,911 points are fourth at WSU, 16th in the Missouri Valley. A first-round draft choice of the Detroit Pistons in 1983, Carr played in two NBA championships, 1997 and 1998, with the Utah Jazz. Last season he played for the Houston Rockets. Other speakers in the series are: cardiac surgeon Vincent Gott, Oct. 1; actor/director/playwright/educator Ron Wilson, Nov. 11; vice president and general manager of Boeing Wichita Jeff Turner, Jan. 13; and water environmentalist Quincalee Brown, April 27. For a season subscription of $60 per person or individual tickets, call the Alumni Association, ext. 3834.
