Inside WSU undergoes changes A few things have changed about Inside WSU. Those changes have been made in part because of the things you, our readers, told us during a survey this past spring. Two years ago, Inside WSU started using a dual-mode of publishing. While we kept publishing weekly by putting all issues online, we went to printing the newsletter only every other week. Of the 317 responses to our survey, 78.6 percent said they never or infrequently read those online issues. Most of those respondents told us it wasn’t a matter of technology that kept them from reading online issues. It was a matter of time and convenience. Many of you read Inside WSU at home, while on lunch or while waiting in line, doing errands. So in response, Inside WSU will now publish every other week on Thursdays while classes are in session — on paper. (For you techno-lovers out there, we’ll put the same content online.) We’ll also expand from a four-page tabloid to take into account that you’ll be seeing fewer issues a year. Inside WSU will continue to provide coverage of the people, happenings and issues at WSU. And we’ll do even more of that. Readers say they want more news articles and features. You also want an easier-to-read calendar that gives more than two weeks of events. The revised calendar should satisfy those needs. We are glad to know that our efforts to keep you in the know are helpful. Most of you are reading Inside WSU and you find it informative. More than 83 percent of the respondents said they always or often read Inside WSU, and 67 percent said it does a good or excellent job of providing information about the WSU community. Inside WSU will focus on keeping people informed about the university community, especially as it relates to WSU’s primary mission of teaching, research and creative activity, and public service. I welcome story ideas from faculty and staff. Tell us about interesting research projects or someone who goes to extraordinary lengths to help students, others in the WSU community or elsewhere. I also welcome your comments about our new look. You can reach me at box 62, ext. 3409 or amy.geiszler-jones@wichita.edu. And thanks to those of you who shared your thoughts through the survey. — Amy Geiszler-Jones
