New exhibits open at Ulrich

The Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art opens the 1999-2000 season this month with two exhibitions from its permanent collection — "Charles Grafly: Public Works" through Oct. 3, and "Photography from the Collection" through Nov. 14.

"Public Works," drawn from the museum’s extensive holdings of Grafly’s sculpture, examines various public projects that were both realized and unrealized by the artist.

The photography exhibition features a selection _of the museum’s diverse photography collection, including artists such as Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham and W. Eugene Smith. "Photography from the Collection" was arranged in conjunction with The History of Photography, a School of Art and Design course taught by instructor David Quick, who helped organize the exhibition.

The month of September brings "Korean Contemporary Art," which opens with a reception at the Ulrich Museum from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9. The exhibition continues through Nov. 7.

This exhibition features many of the most prominent Korean artists, exhibiting a variety of media from painting and sculpture to conceptual and installation art.

One of the more unique aspects of the installation in the Amsden Gallery will be artist Sung Mook Cho’s forms made from rice noodles. The public is invited to watch Cho construct several of those forms, from human figures to architectural structures, from noon-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8.
