Awards Kevin Hager, assistant professor, Elliott School of Communication, won Kansas Association of Broadcasters awards for two projects he produced for KWCH Channel 12. The special "Season of Fury" received first place in the large market, public affairs category. The 30-minute special "Countdown to the New Millennium-Moments in Time" won second place in the large market, entertainment/cultural program category. Hager wrote most of the copy, edited all the copy and did much of the digital video editing for both pieces. Presentations Judith Babnich, associate professor, School of Performing Arts, presented her paper "The Influence of Joseph Chaikin and the Open Theatre on the Omaha Magic Theatre and its Founders Jo Ann Schmidman and Playwright Megan Terry" at the 7th Annual Edward Albee Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska, June 20-27. Chaikin attended the conference, as well. She presented the paper "Six Degrees of William Inge: A Mystery Paper" at the 18th Annual William Inge Festival in Independence, Kan., April 14-17. She also directed "All in the Timing" for the New Edgecliff Theatre Company in Cincinnati Aug. 5-11. Publications Jharna Chaudhuri, professor, mechanical engineering, presented a paper, "Thermal Expansion of GaN and substrates at High Temperatures and Resulting Epitaxial Misfits," in the 48th Annual Denver X-ray Conference in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Aug. 4. J. David McDonald, associate professor and chair, biological sciences, recently co-authored the article "Cognitive Deficits in a Genetic Mouse Model of the Most Common Biochemical Cause of Human Mental Retardation" published in The Journal of Neuroscience. Michael Palmiotto, associate professor, School of Community Affairs, has had his book "Community Policing: A Policing Strategy for the 21st Century" published by Aspen Publishing. Quint Thurman, professor, and Lee Parker, assistant professor, both in the School of Community Affairs, have had their book, "Criminal Justice Research Source," published recently. New to WSU Rocky Burris has joined the Office of University Communications staff as Web developer. Exhibitions Kevin Mullins, assistant curator, Ulrich Museum, will have a solo exhibition, "To the Nine’s," 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, Oct. 5-29, at the Erman B. White Gallery of Art, Butler County Community College.
