Organ series opens Sept. 26

David Higgs, head of the organ department at the Eastman School of Music, will open the Rie Bloomfield Organ Series with a 3 p.m. concert Sept. 26.

Higgs will perform on the Great Marcussen Organ in Wiedemann Hall.

Recent concerts have included the first solo recital on the new organ at Dallas' Meyerson Symphony Center and performances in Osaka and Tokyo in Japan, Vienna, Austria and Cambridge, England.

The New York Times called him "one of the brightest, most promising young concert organists to have appeared on the American music scene in years."

The series includes performances by Colin Andrews and Janette Fishell, Oct. 26-27; Thierry Mechler, April 11; and Robert Town, organizer of the series who will perform the vespers recitals March 1, 8 and 15.

Individual tickets start at $7 with discounts available. Series tickets start at $17. Call ext. 3233 for more information and reservations.
