DESCRIPTION:Location: Wiedemann Hall\n\nEmily Sternfeld-Dunn, soprano, is a strong advocate for new music and unconventional performances of art song and opera. Most recently, Ms. Sternfeld-Dunn was a young artist with the Idaho Washington Symphony. May 2008 marked Ms. Sternfeld-Dunns debut with Hartford Opera Theater as La Goldentrill from Mozarts opera "The Impresario". Other roles with H.O.T. include Laetitia in Menottis, "The Old Maid and the Thief" (2009) and Aunt Polly and Susy Harper in "Tom Sawyer" (2010), a new work commissioned by the company.  In 2007 Ms. Sternfeld-Dunn sang the role of Madame Alitna from the opera "La Divina" by noted contemporary American Composer Thomas Pasatieri. As an advocate of new music, Ms. Sternfeld-Dunn commissioned a recital of new music by composition students at the Hartt School in April of 2008 and in 2012 has started Muse Alliance, a coalition for Kansas based composers.\n\nMs. Sternfeld-Dunn has a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with an emphasis in piano performance from California State University, Hayward where she graduated magna cum laude. She also has a Master of Arts degree in music with emphases in piano and vocal performance from Washington State University, Pullman. Her graduating thesis topic was Robert Schumanns 'Dichterliebe and Frauenliebe und Leben': the inseparable union between words and music. Ms. Sternfeld-Dunn also holds a Graduate Professional Diploma in vocal performance from The Hartt School. She is on faculty at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS where she resides with her husband, composer, Aleksander Sternfeld-Dunn and daughters Maia Lee and Ruby Ann.\n\nTickets for this event are available by calling The WSU Fine Arts Box Office at (316) 978-3233.
